Container records

Carrier container data. Direct means the box was never transshipped — it stayed on the vessel it first loaded onto. Via a port means it was transshipped there and carried on aboard a different vessel. This tier is here to establish one fact: that containers really do move Dalian → Ningbo. Picking operators above scopes the table where the carrier appears in both feeds.

The two medians are not comparable directly: 2 carriers record containers on this lane against 56 operators seen by AIS, so the two sets cover different ships. Where they can be compared — one carrier at a time — the difference is port time, measured at 4.0 d at Dalian (19,265 records) and 2.12 d at Ningbo (10,458 records).

Of the 2,031 journeys whose routing is recorded, 2,025 moved without transshipment and 6 were transshipped — Durban (3, median 94.0 d); Visakhapatnam (3, median 83.0 d) .

The ships do not sail this lane in a straight line. The most called intermediate port is Qingdao, on 42% of voyages (743 of 1,750), and the median voyage makes 2 intermediate calls (the most recorded is 7). A container the carrier records as direct still rides a ship that stops along the way — direct means no transshipment, not nonstop.

Voyage time is not stable. By year the median ran from 9.0 d in 2025 to 10.4 d in 2022, a spread of 1.4 d across 5 years.

It is not uniform across carriers either. Over the whole period the quickest well-evidenced service is WSA5 at 3.9 d (Orient Overseas Container Line, n=11) and the slowest of the ranked set is HL - IRA | KAMBA - ST1 at 9.8 d (Kambara Kisen Co.,Ltd, n=74) — a difference of 5.9 d on the same lane.

Two grains, stated plainly.
